He Will Give You The Desires

Psalm 37:4 is often misunderstood as God promising to give us whatever we want if we love Him enough. However, the true meaning is that when we delight in the Lord, He plants His desires within our hearts so that what we want aligns with what He wants. This transformation happens through a process called sanctification, where we mortify sinful desires and vivify godly ones. Like a gardener who poisons weeds and fertilizes flowers, we must intentionally starve our flesh and feed our spirit through God's Word, worship, and walking in His ways. When our hearts come under God's ownership, our perspective on everything changes, and we experience the complete joy that comes from wanting what God wants rather than getting what we want.
